Who said that you can’t do activities in winter in Ibiza? Street markets are a meeting point for the island residents, who have fun looking for antiques and hand made products at the different stands. After the walking routes I talked about in the last post, I came back to the North to go through its traditional Sunday’s markets.
The first one it is in Cala Llenya and it is typical flea market for second hand objects. You can’t imagine such a curious place!
This is an odd market where you can find a lot of things: from shoes and clothes until furniture, antiques, toys or books. Authentic bargains!
Sometimes, when you’re walking between the stands, you have the sensation you are going back to the past. There are real collector things!
You can also find articles which where given a second chance as old furniture or a tree branches or logs that are sold as an original decoration object. An example of that is Rinjani, an artist of the island who uses woods from old pieces of furniture to create hand painted signs with positive messages.
Last Sunday I carried on with the market route until I arrived to Sant Joan. There I found another street market with a similar spirit as Cala Llenya, but with a different style. The articles sold there are not second hand. Mainly they’re handmade and ecologic products created with pleasure and love by Ibiza’s residents.
Soaps, leather handsbags and bracelets, complements, paitings … An endless amount of really beautiful things!
Besides, there are gastronomic stands where you can buy mermalades and jams, homemade cakes and beer from Ibiza. All delicious!
And if we add to all that the live music to liften up the atmosphere, the plan is more than perfect! You can’t imagine the great ambience that was created with the rhythm of rock&roll.
I will surely go back. You should come to discover these markets!
